Sweet Treat: Chocolate Covered Strawberries
Chocolate covered
strawberries make an easy and elegant candy dessert. Not only can you choose from white, milk or dark chocolate but you can also sprinkle crushed pecans or walnuts on top of them. If you are feeling really fancy you can experiment with double-dipping the
strawberries in different chocolates to vary the flavor and appearance. If you'd like to know how I made the chocolate covered strawberries below, just continue reading.
Chocolate Covered Strawberries
Ingredients
Ingredients
2 dozen ripe strawberries
1 cup milk chocolate morsels
1 cup white chocolate morsels
Directions
1) Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with wax paper
2) Wash the strawberries and dry them thoroughly
3) Place water in small sauce pan and bring water to a boil
3) Place water in small sauce pan and bring water to a boil
4) Place 1 cup of milk chocolate morsels in a microwave-safe bowl or cup and microwave
until it is melted. I placed morsels in a coffee mug and microwaved for 30 seconds - stirred and microwaved for another 30 seconds then stirred
** Please don't overheat the chocolate - overheated chocolate gets thick and hard to work with, so it's important to keep a careful eye on the chocolate**
5) If you followed the instructions in step 3 your chocolate should be completely melted - if some pieces are still not melted just stir until they melt
TIP: If you are using low quality chocolate morsels, you might need to add a little vegetable shortening to thin it out and make it easy to work with
6) Sit cup in sauce pan of water -- the boiling water keeps the chocolate warm and helps to prevent it from hardening -- this gives you more time to dip the strawberries and decorate to your liking

7) Holding a strawberry by the stem, dip it in the chocolate, twirling
it in a circular motion to evenly cover most of the berry. As you lift the berry from
the chocolate, twirl it so that any excess chocolate drips back into the cup
9) Repeat steps 4-8 for 1 cup of white chocolate morsels
