DIY: Scarlet Glitter High Heels

I've had these patent leather scarlet heels for quite some time and as you can tell from the picture below they were well worn. Being that this was the most comfortable pair of heels my feet have had the luxury of being in, I just could not part ways with them even though the toe had become creased and the sides had started to crack a little. However, after revamping my silver clutch wallet with glitter (click here for link to DIY) I decided that I would do the same with this pair of heels and just in time for Valentine's Day. To see how I turned these old worn out heels into glittery stunners, just continue reading.

MATERIALS

old patent leather heels, old paintbrush, mod podge, clear acrylic sealer and extra fine scarlet/ red glitter

STEPS

Step 1: Cover your work area with newspaper and make sure your heels are clean/free of debris.

Step 2: Working with one heel at a time, apply a thin layer of mod podge over the entire surface of the heel with a paintbrush being careful not to get any glue on the bottom sole or heel then sprinkle the glitter on top of the mod podge layer.

I removed/ dumped the excess glitter has the heel was being rotated to cover. I used a clean piece of newspaper to collect the excess glitter and then slightly bent the paper in half to pour the glitter back into the container when done for use again.

Step 3: Check to make sure all of the mod podge is covered and let the layer dry for an hour.

FYI: If you want the glitter layer to be opaque, simply repeat step 2.

Step 4: Repeat steps 2 and 3 for second heel.

Step 5: Once the glitter layer has dried (give it a few hours or overnight) apply another layer of mod podge to both heels over the glitter and let it dry. This step is basically for sealing in the glitter so it doesn't fall off with use.

Step 6: Let heels dry for several hours, preferably overnight. Below are the heels completely covered in scarlet glitter after drying overnight.

Step 7: Remove any excess glitter with a paintbrush from the inside of the heels as well as the bottom sole and heel before proceeding to the next step.

Step 8: For added protection apply clear acrylic sealer to the glittered surface of the heels. Just follow the directions on the container.

FYI: I stuffed the inside of the heels with newspaper to prevent the inside of the heels from getting sprayed.

Step 9: Now it's time to sparkle! Take your new revived pair of heels out for a fun festive night with friends.

Until next time, let inspiration find you!
