DIY: Silver Glitter Clutch Wallet

I've had this clutch wallet for quite some time and as you can see it has been well used. Granted the exterior needs to retire but the interior is in tiptop shape and because of this I just couldn't bring myself to throw it out. Luckily for me, it's almost New Years and no better time to bust out the silver glitter. Nothing says New Years like silver glitter right? To see how I turned this old worn out wallet into a glittery stunner ready for a night out on town, just continue reading.

MATERIALS

old clutch wallet, old paintbrush, glossy mod podge and extra fine silver glitter

STEPS

Step 1: Cover your work area with old newspaper and make sure your wallet is clean/free of debris.

Step 2: Apply a thin layer of mod podge over one side of the wallet with a paintbrush then sprinkle the glitter on top of the mod podge layer. Make sure all of the mod podge is covered and let the layer dry for 30 minutes to an hour.

Step 3: Remove/ dump the excess glitter. I used a sheet of computer paper to collect the excess glitter and then slightly bent the paper in half to pour the glitter back into the container for use again.

FYI: If you want the glitter layer to be opaque, simply repeat steps 2 and 3.

Step 4: Once glitter layer has dried (give it a few hours) apply another layer of mod podge over the glitter and let it dry. This step is basically for sealing in the glitter so it doesn't fall off with use.

Step 5: Let wallet dry for several hours, preferably overnight. Below is the completed first half of this project after drying overnight.

Step 6: Repeat steps 2-5 for the remaining side of the wallet. Below is the wallet completely covered in silver glitter.

OPTIONAL: For added protection you can also apply clear acrylic sealer once the remaining side of the wallet has dried overnight. Just follow the directions on the container.

Step 7: Now it's time to sparkle! Take your new clutch wallet out for a fun festive night with friends.

Until next time, let inspiration find you!
