How to Make Shirt Art
Have you ever had a shirt that you just absolutely loved and for one reason or another eventually something happens that makes it unwearable? Unforeseen things like changes in weight, the shirt shrinking in the wash or the shirt just looking past its prime? Well, today I am going to show you how to turn that beloved shirt into a work of art. If you would like to know how I made the piece below, just continue reading.
MATERIALS
favorite shirt, canvas panel (10x10 wooden panel used for this project), staple gun, 12mm 1/2" heavy duty staples and scissors
STEPS
1) Position the shirt on the canvas panel to your liking and smooth the shirt out.
2) Flip the panel with the shirt in place over. Fold top half of shirt over edge of panel.
3) Staple shirt into place.
4) Move to the opposite side of the panel from the side you just stapled and fold the bottom half of the shirt over the edge of the panel. Pull the shirt as tightly as possible without distorting the design on the front.
5) Staple shirt into place.
6) Remove excess fabric of shirt with scissors in preparation for stapling the sides of shirt into place.
7) Once excess fabric has been removed fold one side of the shirt over the panel pulling the shirt as tight as possible without distorting the design on the front then staple into place.
8) Repeat step 7 for the remaining unstapled side of the shirt.
9) Remove any excess fabric that remains and staple down the corners of the shirt onto the panel.
OPTIONAL: Once shirt is stapled firmly to canvas panel, you can add fabric glue to the ends of the shirt to keep it from fraying.
